“I was raised in a small town and have always felt a calling to stand up for the little guy.”
Attorney J. Brett Davis (Partner)
Brett Davis, a Partner of the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, joined the firm in 2017 and is a committed personal injury attorney. He is a highly accomplished lawyer, a tenacious client advocate, and a respected leader at the firm.
Brett grew up in a small town in the Ohio/Kentucky/West Virginia tri-state area. The eldest of three children, he was always inclined to be protective of others. He saw how his father, a dentist, helped others on a daily basis, and he knew early on that he wanted his future to involve both defending and helping others.
Working for a Common Pleas Court judge during his summers in college, Brett discovered the career he was searching for. He witnessed what he called “the purest form of advocacy” in the courtroom and knew he wanted to practice law and fight for people’s rights. And he’s never wavered since.
Exploring Education Opportunities Abroad
Brett attended the Honors Tutorial College at Ohio University where he studied Political Science and accumulated enough credit hours to graduate in three years. His senior year, he studied abroad at the University of Wales where he made lifelong friends, explored the Welsh culture, and learned about his family’s ancestral background.
When Brett returned to the United States, he enrolled in The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. During law school, he once again embarked on an international study program – this time at Oxford University. After earning his J.D., Brett began his career fighting for some of those who need it most by practicing criminal defense.
Finding His Place in North Carolina
Brett moved to Durham, North Carolina in the early 2000s and used his litigation skills to represent victims of nursing home abuse and negligence as well as personal injury and medical malpractice clients. Ultimately, he brought his considerable legal know-how and client focus to the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, where he manages the case investigations team and the operational aspects of the firm’s litigation team.
While Brett is an experienced personal injury attorney, his contributions to the legal community extend beyond the office walls. He has volunteered as a mediator with the Wake County District Court criminal case mediation program and as a judge for the Wade Edwards High School Mock Trial Program, Tobacco Road College Mock Trial Program, and the ABA Client Counseling Competition.
A North Carolina Advocates for Justice (NCAJ) member, he has served on the Membership and Political Action Committees as well as the Advocate Educational Achievement Program. For his unflagging service to the NCAJ, Brett achieved its Order of Service award.
Keeping Active
Brett enjoys being outdoors – whether he’s flyfishing, skiing, or mountain biking. He lives in Raleigh with his wife and their two children.
